Cheng Ho, servant as a boy of ten to the Ming Dynasty Emperor, Yung Lo, grew to be a giant of a man, seven feet tall with a voice like thunder. He became the most famous Admiral of his time, visiting strange and dangerous places and covering greater distance than any other man before him. He fought pirates, settled disputes and brought back treasure and wild animals from Africa as tribute to his Emperor.

The stories of his great adventures in the South Seas will live on forever and even to this day, some claim that Cheng Ho - or Mao Sanbao, as he was called - was none other than Sinbad the Sailor.

Cheng Ho is one of the HEROES FROM THE EAST series.

Julia Marshall is the author of Shah Jahan & The Story of the Taj Mahal, and Akbar.
